Zombies, Run!

28 Feb

I have thoroughly enjoyed my newest toy! I have been using the Zombies, Run! app on my iPhone. I pre-ordered this after hearing about it on NPR.

The premise of the game is to collect supplies for your home base and avoid zombie attacks. What more could you want?! I’ve only completed my first mission but I’m already hooked. This has been a great deal of fun, if not just for the occasional zombie horde groaning into your headphones! The app runs your regular playlist in the background, which I have set to my own running pace, while letting you know as your pick up supplies for base camp. You’ll get occasional interruptions of motivation as well as shouting and shotgun blasting regarding oncoming zombie mobs. This reminds me a bit of the Couch to 5k app, but a little more humorous and a bit less about timing. So, keep running! Before they get you! I’m back on the track (or… treadmill!) I can’t wait to get further into the game.

The downfall for a fair majority of folks is that the android app hasn’t been released yet – but is apparently coming this summer.

Two weeks!

23 Feb

It’s just two weeks until the Susan Komen 5k in Baton Rouge. I’ve almost reached my fundraising goal which makes me extremely proud! My only downfall here is that I have not trained in three weeks. Yup. I fell off the keep-truckin’ wagon. I ran a few times, but nothing regular or consistent enough to count as training!

I was sick as a dog 3 weeks ago. Then the next week was spent recovering. Then came Valentines, Birthday, and Mardi Gras laced with some pretty rotten emotional roller coasters. Yow! Those are all excuses, of course. I’m putting it out here though, I slacked off! I feel guilty. So, I’m back at it tomorrow but of course I don’t have much time to re-build my stamina. I have been behaving in terms of diet – but the running really makes a difference in my physical stamina and my mental health.

I keep telling myself it’s alright, because this is simply about the intent of the race – and not so much about my own personal record in completion. I still intend to go and whoop! my previous time – because I had been able to get my speed up a bit!

I’ve got the Crescent City Classic coming and THAT is what is very important to me in terms of preparation right now. Of course, the after party is the real goal… ha!

So, I’M BACK!

Sick!

4 Feb

There’s nothing quite like a viral bug to knock you on your behind for a few days! It seems like every time I get my body in sync something comes and muddies up the waters. Part of life, of course! My one pleading hope is that my kiddo doesn’t catch this funk. Gross!
Running… Monday? I hope so.
My gym has a little contest going where you run the mileage across the state. Each mile you run actually qualifies for a good bit more than the actual mileage, but the end result is 690 miles. Now, there are some marvelous people in my gym who have nearly completed. I’m proud of them! I’m still logging miles in the deep south, though!

I’ve only gone from the starting line in Grand Isle up past Baton Rouge. I’ve still got to make it to Shreveport! It’s been fun to watch my own progress charted, as the visual is much more appealing than what I log in my planner each day.
Hope this funkiness shakes!

Shopping!

1 Feb

I have felt the urge to indulge as of lately. I figured I should reward myself for 50 lbs lost (woohoo!) and make a few purchases.

Purchased from Running4Linda

Wake Up and Run!

Try!

These are gorgeous! All funds from the purchase of these bracelets go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

I also ordered a Team Sparkle skirt and leggings for my Susan Komen 5k! If these are as fabulous as I think they will be, I’ll be purchasing another fun set for the Crescent City Classic. That one’s got a costume contest… THAT will be fun. ;) Maybe I’ll be Snow White!

I also finally purchased my RoadID. After much coaxing from that boyfriend of mine, it’s been determined that one is necessary. I’m a klutz, falling down and knocking my head silly wouldn’t be that far fetched. Atleast now they can contact my mama or daddy! I bought the ankle version and I can’t wait to wear it! They also gave me a coupon code for discounts for other people. Awesome!

RoadID

I also ordered some Nuun fruit punch tablets for my water! Electrolytes and sugar free? I’ll give it a go!

I’ve been reading Run Like a Mother! This has been an absolute pleasure and a boatload of inspiration to me. Nothing like getting your booty out of bed with the knowledge that you’re not the only one dreading the initial mile!

I’m ready to take on some more mileage!
