Wow! I will say this, I haven’t enjoyed myself at an event this much thus far! The preparations for getting to and setting up at the CCC were a bit of a hassle, but once I was corralled in it was a great time! The first mile always seems to be a bunch of zig-zagging and hopping over people that weren’t placed where they were supposed to be. I don’t much mind this until I start tripping all over myself. I am slow paced, no question about it – but setting up walking at the beginning isn’t the way to play this game. Yow! I did a lot of sidewalk running to avoid others and also to stay out of the way of people stuck behind me.
It was suffocating, in typical New Orleans fashion! I enjoyed my 4 mile beer stop as well as hugging Gumbo as I ran by. I finished in a bit over 60 minutes, so not too shabby on something I didn’t expect to make PR on. Boyfriends dad captured me at Harrah’s on video. All you can see is me shouting his name and waving maniacally. Very impressive!
I did have a spectacular cheering squad again, this go round! One of my coworkers biked across the city to watch me finish, the boyfriends family watched from their hotel, and the boyfriend was at the finish line, as well! Afterward there was beer, jambalaya, and debauchery. It wouldn’t be New Orleans without it!
Tomorrow I complete Relay for Life in Ascension Parish. I am very excited for this, as it will be my first relay as well as an opportunity to participate as a survivor. Pretty spectacular.
I’ve signed up for the Crescent Connection Bridge Run! This was kind of an ironic determination. I opted to run it simply because it falls on the day that I was supposed to be wed. 06/09/12. I will be running in all white with a veil. The dress is still questionable!
